Russell Springs KY Real Estate and Community Information

Real estate in Russell Springs is an ideal choice for anyone who is looking for small town charm. If you happen to love the outdoors as well, then you've certainly found your new hometown. That's because properties in this idyllic corner of Kentucky provide homeowners with unequaled access to the county's main attraction: Lake Cumberland. The majority of homes for sale are single family dwellings with generous yards. Both new construction homes and structures with more historic character are available. You may even be able to make your dream of owning lakefront acreage come true right here.

The town's history begins with the formation of Russell County from parts of three other counties in 1825 . Historians believe that the town was first established as Big Boiling Springs in 1850. It took it's name from the natural springs in the area. Five years later a post office on the site was designated as Russell Springs, but the name didn't stick. It was known as Kimble until 1901 when it was given its current name. The population of about 2,500 residents love their small town and its bucolic setting.

Parks and Recreation

A beautiful park in the center of the city is a central gathering place. Athletes of all ages play sports here, and the Little League games are particularly popular. This is also the site of the community swimming pool. The little ones love the playgrounds while adults are drawn to the trail system. The Lake Cumberland State Resort Park in nearby Jamestown is also a major attraction with its lovely restaurant, horseback riding, mini-golf and lake access.

Attractions and Activities

The main attraction around here is Lake Cumberland. For fishing, swimming, boating, wake boarding and jet skiing, this lake simply can't be beat. The region is also crisscrossed with exciting trails. Golfers can't resist the links at the Lake Cumberland Golf Club Resort  and Lakewood Country Club. The historic Star Theater presents live productions throughout the year. Fishing enthusiasts won't pass up a trip to the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.

Each year the Jaycee's organize the Russell County Fair, an event that includes monster trucks, pageants, horse racing, carnival rides and plenty of live entertainment. August brings the Lake Cumberland Bluegrass Festival, which celebrates regional and nationally-recognized musicians. Neighboring city Jamestown is the host of Lakefest each July.
